MIT SafePaths is a citizen-centric movement to develop free, open-source, privacy-by-design mobile technology for citizens and public health officials to curb the spread of COVID-19 through accurate digital contact-tracing. The technology will guide triaging operations within the public, medical sector, and the government. Smartphones can help mitigate viral spread but any network analysis could cause unacceptable intrusion to privacy and human rights. SafePaths is a privacy-first solution with serious consideration of technical and human factors.
