Short description

Tackling anxiety disorders using percussion and handpan.

Description

We have been using music, in particular percussion and handpan, with a wide range of people as independent practitioners with some fantastic results, particularly in regards to reducing anxiety (up until recently we have done this as sole traders, but registered as a CIC in Feb 2020). This project represents a new focus for our CIC adapting in response to what we believe will be a sharp increase in occurrence and severity of several mental health conditions, in particular anxiety disorder post lockdown. We would like to work with a Research Psychologist to develop this approach and evidence its effectiveness.
Our work will focus on building confidence, self esteem and helping to reintegrate people back into their communities after this period of isolation. This will be done initially with 1:1 sessions with a stepped approach as participants in time join small group sessions with other participants and work towards reintegrating into their local communities.

What we need help with

At present our main need is financial. We are a new organisation, however we have been working in this field for some time as independent practitioners and are convinced of the effectiveness of our work. We are aiming to raise funds to pay for the core costs of this new project, equipment and to work with a Research Psychologist to evidence our work.
