MITIGATION OF COVID 19 EFFECTS IN DISTRICTS OF MAS

Short description

PROBLEM STATEMENT The proposed project is that of rescuing 200 women who have lost their jobs due to the on-going covid

Description

Though the project which is an emergency one, the organization will meet payment of rental costs of those thrown out of their rented rooms.
The project will also provide food to the effected, health care bills, personal care items such as soap and cotton sanitary pads and as an alternative to their closed business, they will be provided with 200 dollars each as a stimulus to initiate new accepted businesses such as selling food and charcoal in recommended standard operating procedures. Our organization is best placed to respond to this issue as it is deeply rooted in the affected community even now as government started easing lockdown, the above women’s businesses remain under strict closure due to nature of their businesses of gathering clients. It is very urgent to carry out this intervention as many of these women’s lives are at a very high risk due to corona virus pandemic. If they are not helped soon, many will become destitute, fall sick or even die!
Once this project is funded and implemented the following results are expected;
• Women will be able to remain in their rented rooms without being thrown out and this will save them from being homeless hence destitution.
• They will be able to get food.
• They will able to access health services through paying bills.
• They will be able access sanitary pads and manage their days well.
• They will be able to get soap, lotions etc
• They will be able to get start up- capital of 200 dollars to start up small business to enable them become sustainable after initial help.
The situation occurred from March and still on-going. In March, government here as a result of corona virus pandemic imposed a national wide lockdown and all businesses were closed. Even now as government start easing, schools, salons, bars, sexual workers remain under stick restriction which put them in utmost starvation.
People’s Mercy Foundation has 10 years experience in urban and rural communities until emphasis put on unhealthy groups of people who included women, orphans, girl child education, the disabled and the heavily impoverished sanities one of people intervention of the organization is the building of the capacity of these people to have meaningful and

productive lives. This intervention could not be carried out in our day to day activities as we face scarcity of funds to implement the proposed projects hence reaching out to you. The activity is to be carried out mainly in slummy areas of Nyendo, Kinoni and Kalungu communities. Although the number of affected women is bigger, those to be supposed have critically been selected identifying the highly affected.
It is projected that the project will be implemented in 30 days as it is an emergency one once it is funded by your Good Selves.
